Meat Price Estimator for Mexico
Estimate what a cut of meat costs at retail in any of Mexico's 32 states. Adjust for quality grade, how the animal was raised, where you buy and how much you buy.
Estimates only, for planning and comparison. Actual prices vary by store, week and availability.
What drives meat prices in Mexico?
Retail meat prices in Mexico depend on the cut, the region, the grade, how the animal was raised and where you buy. Prices in the Yucatán Peninsula and tourist areas such as Quintana Roo usually run above the national average because most beef is trucked in from northern and central states.
Grass-fed, free-range and certified organic meat costs more because animals grow more slowly, need more land and are processed in smaller batches. Buying in bulk or at a public market usually lowers the price per kilo.
How the estimate works
Base prices are typical conventional supermarket prices per kg (or per dozen for eggs), anchored on PROFECO 'Quien es Quien en los Precios' averages (Aug 2026 beef cuts, 2026 pork cuts, Lent 2026 seafood, Dec 2025 turkey), current supermarket listings (Soriana, Chedraui weekly offers of Nov 2026, Walmart, City Market) and SNIIM wholesale references cited in industry bulletins; promotional and delivery-app prices were adjusted toward regular shelf prices. Cuts with no 2025-2026 public quote (e.g. brisket, marrow bones, mahi-mahi, water buffalo) are interpolated from neighbouring cuts and flagged in their source notes. State factors are approximations built from ANPEC's 2026 state food-basket costs and INEGI regional inflation reports, not from state-level meat price series, so treat them as +/- a few percent. Quality, input, channel and quantity factors are conservative estimates derived from observed price gaps between conventional and specialty products in Mexican retail (e.g. organic/free-range eggs, pasture-raised ground beef, Select vs Prime cuts, club-store bulk packs).
Interpolated values (no 2025-2026 public quote found): NY strip, sirloin, brisket, tongue, marrow bones, chorizo, ham, chicken wings, water buffalo (both), mahi-mahi. SNIIM's portal was not queried directly; SNIIM figures come via the CONAFAB weekly bulletin. Delivery-app (Rappi) listings carry a markup and were adjusted down. State factors are approximations, not measured meat prices by state.

Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is the meat price estimator?
It gives a typical range based on 2025–2026 public price surveys and supermarket listings. Individual stores and weekly promotions can be 10–20% above or below.
Why is meat more expensive in Quintana Roo?
Transport from producing states, tourism demand and higher commercial costs push prices above the national average in Quintana Roo and parts of Yucatán.
Is organic meat worth the price?
Organic and grass-fed meat comes from animals raised without growth hormones or routine antibiotics, with more space and a natural diet. Many buyers choose it for flavour, nutrition and animal welfare.
